The US ambassador apologized for the incident of the TNI Commander being denied entry to the United States
US Ambassador to Indonesia
Joseph Donovan apologized to the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on
the incident of TNI Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo was refused when he was
about to fly to the United States.
"The US embassy has
coordinated with the TNI Commander's staff on this issue, the US embassy is
ready to facilitate the travel of General Gatot Nurmantyo) to the United
States," the US embassy said on Sunday.
The US Embassy hopes the case
will not disturb the relationship between Indonesia and the US. "We remain
committed to the Strategic Partnership with Indonesia," wrote the official
US Embassy page in Jakarta.
But the US embassy in Jakarta
did not explain at all why General Gatot who had held the official invitation
of the United States Army Commander General Joseph F. Durford, Jr., could be
denied entry into the United States.
Head of the TNI illumination
center TNI Major General TNI Wuryanto said related to this incident, TNI
Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo has reported to the President of Indonesia
through aide, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Political, Legal and
Human Rights Coordinator and sent a letter to General Joseph. F. Durfort Jr.,
and is currently awaiting an explanation for this incident.
"The departure of the
United States at the invitation of the Commander of the Armed Forces and on the
good relations of the two countries and the good relationship between the Armed
Forces Commander and the TNI Commander, therefore TNI Commander-in-Chief Gatot
Nurmantyo and his wife and delegates decided not to attend the invitation of
the United States Military Commander until there was an explanation official
